“I explore existential reflections by using the metaphor of shifting geological elements and memories through the passage of time, to render nuanced abstractions.”- Chaitrali Bandekar
Singapore-based, Chaitrali is a contemporary artist who creates mainly abstracts and semi-abstracts inspired by Nature-led mindfulness, lived experiences and environmental consciousness.
Her layered, textural compositional style is informed by her exploration of the nature of being amid constant change as she progresses in her self-actualization journey and evoke the feeling of memories and terrains in flux where forms continually dissolve and reform. Through her works, she combines how landscapes are remembered, altered and internalized over time, with spaces that radiate a meditative calmness, and invite viewers into quiet contemplation. Furthermore, by depicting an essence of Mother Nature in her works, she also strives to shine a light on the subject of the climate crisis and environmental risks humankind are causing to our beautiful planet.
The delicate balance between intuitive play and intellect is core to her creative process. Her works, mainly on canvas and wood, employ a mixed techinque involving varied media such as layered pigments -acrylics, charcoal, acrylic inks, coffee, pastels. These are rendered by an array of everyday objects and tools to create textured, eroded surfaces that showcase her signature style. Her repertoire has also included sculptures, mainly using air dry clay and wood.
In her continued quest for learning and experimenting, she has taken lessons in Fine Arts from established fine artist Shyama Nadimpalli over the past several years and continues to experiment and learn through other courses and workshops till date. She is also an alumni of the Creative Visionary Program, taught by Nicholas Whilton under Art2life.
Having had her first solo in 2022 at the prestigious Global Art Fair at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, Chaitrali has shown and sold her artworks in several exhibitions in Singapore (Gnani Arts Gallery, The Gallery at the Well, Maya Gallery, BeOne Gallery), in India (India Art Festival in Mumbai) and Dubai (World Art Dubai) over the years. Her characteristically calming signature artworks continue to deeply resonate with art collectors and patrons across all walks of life and are held in private collections in Singapore and internationally.
